wait staff 1 (taking orders)
Our Wait Staff are the friendly face of Liberty Tea Rooms. You’ll welcome guests, take orders, serve food and drinks, and help create a warm, relaxed atmosphere. This role involves answering questions about the menu (including allergens), promoting daily specials, and working closely with the kitchen and guest relations teams to ensure excellent service throughout each guest’s visit.
wait staff 2 (Serving from trays)
This role focuses on delivering food and drinks to guests quickly and efficiently. You’ll prepare trays, serve cakes and drinks, and support a smooth, enjoyable service. As part of the front‑line team, you’ll engage with guests, explain specials or allergens when needed, and help uphold the welcoming ethos of Liberty Tea Rooms.
Barista
As a Barista volunteer, you’ll prepare and serve hot drinks using our barista coffee machine, working closely with the rest of the team to ensure orders go out accurately and on time. This role is available to volunteers who have completed Liberty Tea Rooms barista training and is ideal for those who enjoy making high‑quality drinks and working in a busy café environment.
(FOH) Front of house Assistant
Front of House Assistants help keep the tea rooms running smoothly. You’ll deliver food and drinks, clear and reset tables, support guest requests, and ensure the space is clean, safe, and welcoming. This role is perfect for volunteers who enjoy being active, helping others, and contributing to a positive guest experience.
guest relations
Guest Relations volunteers give every visitor a warm and friendly welcome. You’ll explain how Liberty Tea Rooms works, support our donation‑based system, assist with gift aid registration, and respond to guest questions or needs. This role suits confident communicators who enjoy engaging with people and sharing the vision and ethos of Liberty Tea Rooms.
Kitchen assistant
Kitchen Assistants play a vital behind‑the‑scenes role by keeping the kitchen clean and organised. You’ll help with washing up, loading and unloading the dishwasher, and ensuring crockery and cutlery are ready for service. This role is essential to the smooth running of the tea rooms and is ideal for volunteers who enjoy practical, supportive work.
assistant cook
Assistant Cooks support the Cook Staff by helping prepare food and maintaining kitchen standards. You’ll follow instructions, learn new skills, and assist with day‑to‑day food preparation while observing food hygiene and allergen procedures. This is a great opportunity for volunteers who want to gain experience in a kitchen setting.
community baker
Our Community Bakers are an incredibly valued part of Liberty Tea Rooms. By baking from home and delivering cakes on a regular basis, you help ensure our guests can enjoy a wonderful variety of homemade treats – all made with care and generosity.
This role is ideal for those who love baking and want to contribute in a flexible, practical way from their own kitchen. To meet food safety legislation, Community Bakers are required to hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification (the cost of which can be reimbursed by the charity) and to be open to a basic Environmental Health kitchen inspection. We fully support volunteers through this process and aim to make it as straightforward and positive as possible.
